Valkenburg, Netherlands Christmas in a Cave Love True Story
A trip to Valkenburg to visit the Magic Sand creation left me almost speechless. And this does not happen very often! We drove to Valkenburg, Netherlands over the weekend to see the Christmas Markets in caves. There are three caves in very close proximity to each other so we ambitiously set out to see all three on a Friday afternoon.

Valkenburg is full of quarries and caves, and this is one of the best! Believe it or not, the Municipal Cave in Valkenburg covers over 110 hectares! The cave is filled with limestone that used to be extracted by the Romans, but now you can admire the vast cave space covered in shells and other art!

The Velvet caves were originally formed when marl, a sort of limestone, was mined from the ground to build the city. Some of the mines around Maastricht.
